Quote – Thoreau on “Hunting”

You seek the bird...

but get only the body!

A gun gives you the body, not the bird.

  1. Hmmm that one is quite philosophical…

  2. Profound.

People these days do not seem to learn/remember/understand this. They are too busy butchering trees and lush green forests… all for the sake of “development”.

    • Children already know this in the form of a story – the Goose with Golden Eggs. As Jared Diamond says, its the difference between harvesting the renewable resources of the Earth and mining it. One allows nature’s bounty to refresh – the other kill’s the Large Green Goose Egg – our Earth.

  3. Ava Says:

    “As flies to wanton boys”

It is an immature mind that will try to kill innocent birds who do much to perpetuate life on this planet. Truly man is the most dangerous of all species.

  4. True, and applies to all animals too! By the more of us understand this, maybe it would be too late. 😦

  5. And shooting with a camera in the bird’s natural habitat is so much better.
